T-Shirt Contest Winners

When choosing the winner of our 3 finalists we had a tough time picking just one. We decided to use all three designs for next seasons T-shirts! Even ranking them was extremely difficult. We are really happy with the feedback from the contest and are going to have  a second one in the near future. So if you didn’t get a chance to enter this contest, start prepping for the next. Thanks to everyone who participated! Here are the top 3 shirts mocked up the way we are going to make them. All three received cash prizes for making the top 3. Make sure to check out the bios, photos, and videos of the 3 winners below.

Nelson Gonzales

Words from Nelson
“My name is Nelson Gonzalez otherwise known in the skim community as “Moon Dawg”.  I am so stoked to be a part of this sport and lifestyle so much that I have been spreading the knowledge and love about skimboarding with my friends in the Brooklyn and New York area.   My passion for skimboarding and art runs deep.  The waves are always on my mind and they help fuel my inspiration for my drawings.  Back in 2008 a couple friends, my cousin and I started our skimboarding journey. Up until now we have been skimming at competitions all over which we have documented in our movie trilogy.  I was the first in the Brooklyn/ New York area to go to a Skim USA contest.  It was so taboo here that I threw myself in a contest to learn and become a part of something I love so much.  I loved being able to share it with other people who love it as much as I do.

My friends and I have created our own skim camp and competitions here In Coney Island, Brooklyn and have been running it for the past three years. This past year was one of our biggest.   I’ve had a lot of local support including my Dad who has been making us the coolest trophies for the competitors. We had skimmers from New Jersey and Long Island come to skim. We handed out customized skim tees to get the kids stoked, and I am proud to say more then a dozen of my kids have been bitten by the skim bug.   They really appreciate the ocean and this healthy and amazing sport.  Skimming lets you appreciate Mother Nature and make deep bonds with the friends you make in the waves.”
