Alex Yokley and Gio Tomasi take top honors at the 2024 OBX Skim Jam!
This past weekend our team traveled to Nags Head, NC for the 2024 Outer Banks Skim Jam at Jennette’s Pier. This competition is part of Skim USA tour and a stop for the men’s professionals on the United Skim Tour. With approximately 170 pro/am competitors and a pro purse of $15,000 it was the largest and biggest paying skim competition this year!
The competition was heated in both the amateur and professional divisions with international riders and many from all over the east and west coast of the United States. Most of our team riders had to battle through multiple heats just to make it to their final. Amateur stand-outs included Brody Chandler-Thompson, Graham Shelton, Kaleb Perkins, and ET Beaugrand who all earned respective second place finishes in their divisions.
In the men’s professional division our riders came out swinging in the first two rounds but were unfortunately taken out in tough to ride wind and white water conditions. Fortunately some of our top female and youth riders were ready for the challenging conditions. Both Alex Yokley and Gio Tomasi came to the Outer Banks Skim Jam for a win! You could see it in their eyes and riding from their first heat that no one was going to stop them from a victory in the Women’s Pro and Menehune divisions. Alex skimmed with power and speed through all her rides and landed multiple big spins to set her apart from her competition and take the win. Young Gio continued to skim like a seasoned veteran looking more like a man than a grom with his poise, style, and consistency taking him to another well deserved first place!
