The first day of the Board Walk Blow Up started off a bit chilly but turned out to be a great day. The professionals started off the day since the higher tide was early and the waves were pretty fun. First heat Stephen Bradford was looking pretty comfortable with some long rides, liner connections, and some nice technical maneuvers. Dave “Monster” Armstrong followed him up with some nice airs. Both advanced taking 1st and 2nd place. As the pro heats went on the waves and weather changed with some hard offshore wind and a quick rain storm. Max Smetts, Derek Shenton, John Akerman, and Dave Scott all advanced as well to the second day of competition. Not long after the pro heats the bad weather cleared up and the sun came out making the day much nicer. AM riders Naji Taha, Johnny Chapa, Casey Ritzer, and newest team rider Lucas McCoy all made it through their semi pro and amateur heats making the best of the lower tide conditions. Shout out to Roman Hager who couldn’t make the event this year due to a sudden case of the flu. Get better Roman! All in all it was a great day for the Zap crew and were off to the after party at Skim City tonight. Check back tomorrow for the final event recap. We are all excited.
