OBX Contest Recap

Words: Max Smetts

The OBX Skim Jam went down this past weekend at Jennette’s Pier. It was whirlwind start with a lot of rain and wind on Saturday that made it a bit difficult to run the event and compete in for the riders. Everyone made the most of it and pulled through to run all the heats on Saturday which paved the way for a great finals day on Sunday. The weather was polar opposite on Sunday with lots of sun and really fun waves for the competitors. The Amateurs were fun the first part of the morning and the contest finished with the Pro’s in the afternoon. In the Amateur Division, we had several team riders finish in the 1st Place with Nick Turdo in Jr. Men’s and Cory Klitz in Boys. They were killing it all weekend and are on a terror. In the Pro’s, John Akerman finished in 4th with his teammates Mason Broussard in 5th and Gerardo Valencia in 6th. Everyone was putting on a show and it was really fun to watch with man on man heats.

We were stoked to have supported this great contest and gave away lots swag down at the event. There was a lot of stoked kids which is great to see. Don’t miss out on more swag to claim at our next event in Dewey Beach... The Zap World Championships are going down August 10-12. See you there!
