This past weekend we tapped into warmer weather as we got to watch our Mexican Monsters put on a show at the Melaque Skim Contest, in none other than dreamy Melaque Mexico.
The weather was great and the boys had a good time representing Zap and getting to show some of what they have been working on as the skim season starts to kick into high gear. It was a fun weekend with changing and inconsistent conditions, but they made the best of it! We saw team riders new and old ripping, including Yahir Valencia, Elian Juarez, Pablo "Machete" Real, Emilio Zepol, and Oliver Brambila.
Saturday the conditions were dreamy, a consistent 3-5 feet all day, classic Melaque. The boys all made it through to round 2 following on finals day. Waking up on Sunday, the conditions started off pretty nice with about a 2-4 foot swell, but got more complicated as the day went on with a growing and rarely seen straight south wind that got the best of the conditions, but nothing that our Mexi crew couldn't handle! Making it all the way through to the top 6 were Emilio finishing in 2nd place, Yahir after suffering a pretty gnarly injury earning a very respectable 4th place, and Elian rounding out the top 6.
The boys had a great time skimming fun heats that were super tight and put on a good show. Team stand out of the weekend, Oliver Brambila went up against some veterans of the sport and showed them that he's not playing around. Overall it was a great weekend, with great vibes and a classic skim contest energy.
