This past weekend on September 7th & 8th the Sea Bright Skim Bash celebrated 20 years of skimboarding competition in Sea Bright, NJ with 119 participants. The event was organized by the Jersey Shore Skim Camp and also the final stop on the 2024 Skim USA Tour.
Vibes were high all weekend with many long time New Jersey skimmers in attendance to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Despite difficult conditions and stormy weather to start competition on Saturday, riders and the Skim USA crew pushed through to put on a great show. The mayor even showed up to welcome riders and acknowledge how important the skim community is to Sea Bright!
On Sunday the weather cleared for a beautiful brisk fall day of skimboarding on the Jersey shore! The skyline of NYC set the backdrop as competition heated up for the final rounds. With final tour standing implications in many divisions riders threw down technical skimboarding and precise air drops to negotiate the rough conditions. Many skimmers took to their switch game to level up and earn additional points in heats where wave riding was difficult. Our men’s professional team almost swept the podium with Gerardo Valencia taking 1st, Mason Broussard 2nd, Lucas McCoy 3rd, Leo Freitas 4th, Aiden Stevenson 5th (Team VIC), and Dylan Duncan 6th.
Sydney Pizza secured another women’s pro Skim USA victory and tour championship with solid combinations and a backside attack that fended off hungry pro Rylea Sinex.
Other top finishers for our amateur team included Kaleb Perkins and Gio Tomasi who also took first place and secured their rankings as Senior Grand Master and Menehune Skim USA tour champions! Menehune Brody Chandler also took 2nd behind Gio in a competitive Menehune division.
