A few weeks ago, the Melaque Skim Contest 2025 went down in Melaque, Mexico. The Zap team are no strangers to Melaque so you know it was a good time! Check out the full recap now.
“On March 15 and 16, 2025, the skimboarding tournament was held in San Patricio-Melaque, Jalisco, marking the 19th anniversary of this great event.
The wave conditions were quite good during the competition days, there were quite a few riders participating in this event, as well as increased support and presence from involved sponsors.
We loved having some of our colleagues from out of state and out of the country! It's always nice to see them all together again, competing, but even more importantly, socializing, sharing, and having a good time.
This year, the organizers of MSC2025 decided that no fee would be charged to those who wanted to participate in the "beginners" category. This was done in order to give all those who are starting out in this sport, and those who already have little experience, the opportunity to compete and experience what it is like to participate in these events as such, thus motivating them to continue their sports careers.
Despite what happened with Yahir "Chango" Valencia during his heat, going through a bad time due to a severe hamstring tear during his heat in the semifinals leaving him out of the competition, we were all a little affected since it seemed that he would be the one who would take a good place on the podium... which in the end he got, but not in the way that he or we expected (we will soon share videos on our IG profile)
We're leaving you with this recap of what this great event was like in the town, along with all our colleagues and participants, hoping you enjoy it!
SPECIAL THANKS TO THE HOTEL LAGUNA DEL TULE FOR PROVIDING ACCESS TO ITS FACILITIES AND SERVICES, TO THE BAR ÁNCORA LAGUNA DEL TULE FOR SUPPORTING US WITH THE SPACE TO HOLD THE FINAL AWARDS CEREMONIES, AND TO THE H. CITY COUNCIL OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CIHUATLÁN FOR SUPPORTING US WITH SOUND EQUIPMENT FOR THE COMPETITION DAYS.
We'd also like to thank each and every one of the sponsors who supported this great event, and we hope to see you all again next year! Let's make this even bigger!" - Ed Amador
